Scooter's Employment Application


Please read carefully before applying:

From the New Year to early summer, we get that question a lot. Everyone seems to
want to work here. We are looking for the Best. And, we are always hiring the Best.

Please note that we take the applications we receive as the first step of the interview
and the application must be filled out in its entirety and be returned to us for further
employment consideration.

We are looking for very outgoing and friendly personalities. We want people who are
proud of where they work and proud when customers compliment them as part of
great team of employees. We look for people to join our team who can both think for
themselves AND be a good team member. You must be able to think on your feet and
to multi-task. We want people who want to work at Scooter's.

A few other things to consider:

  • Scooping frozen custard looks like fun from the customer side of the counter, but believe us, it's hard
    work! It can get hot in the store, scooping takes a bit of physical strength as well as a lot of mental
    awareness to interact with the customers, prepare their order efficiently, and work together well with
    the other team members. Plus, we inevitably get sticky from handling the scoops and moving empty
    tubs around, so it can be a bit messy. But, you will never work with a nicer group of people and you
    will never work with nicer customers than in the ice cream business. And, the basic skills you learn in
    our business can be very good habits as you move on in life.  Therefore, you must like working in a
    fast paced, team environment while also having the initiative to think independently to help out the
    entire team.
  • The majority of our business is on week nights, after 6pm, and on weekends, especially weekend
    nights, so those are the times when we need people to be available to work. Especially in the spring
    and fall, we have a small need for people who are able to work the day shift, but you must be
    extremely mature and independent and able to multi-task. If you often go away with family or friends
    on summer holidays, this is not the place for you. In fairness to the whole team, we expect all
    employees to be available to work throughout our season or the time agreed to.  However, we do
    allow employees to work with each other to swap shifts which works out very well for all employees
    who need time off. And, we provide three months off from December - February....perfect for enjoying
    the holidays, preparing for final exams and getting established in coursework or a New Year before
    our spring opening.
  • We are in the food business and therefore, we are OPEN holidays....Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day,
    Thanksgiving weekend....and you must be available to work those weekends.
  • Students that are available to work Spring (a few days a week beginning now or Past Labor Day) are a
    bonus. Our season is in full swing by late April, so we hope to have most of our staff on board and
    trained by then. We have a few summer only employees who can satisfy the above criteria. But, if you
    do not get out of school until June and go back in August or right after Labor Day, that puts you at a
    disadvantage.

Scooter’s is accepting applications from people who are high energy, extremely

February. We need mainly evening and weekend help with some daytime availability.

Scooter's is located in the  West Lakeview/Roscoe Village neighborhood on Chicago’s North Side.
Our atmosphere is family oriented, catering to kids of all ages. We are looking for employees who
can start late February and seasonal employees who may be interested in summer employment
beginning in mid-spring.

Part-Time Managers who have experience...we typically promote from within so you learn the business from
the ground up. How long it takes for promotions is up to the individual and needs of the business.
